My Journey
After growing up on a family farm in Canada, worked as a Manager and Park Warden for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Municipalities, travelled the world working mostly on farms, renovated an old farmhouse and became a mother. All important building blocks to enable me the confidence and knowledge to start my own businesses and employment independence.
A self proclaimed Multipreneur – a Business Owner (JL’s Custom Framing & Artwork – Canada) and freelance employee project managing SEO’s and digital marketing for global brands (Bush Branding & Marketing – Australia) as well as involved with marketing and farm work (Sauble River Farms – Ontario) . Yet my passion remains as an author for Amabel Books writing and illustrating children’s books.
It has been through life experiences both as a child and as an adult that the inspiration for my stories was derived. To truly live and hold onto the idealistic view of a child is a lifelong goal which may be the largest factor in why my stories are told through the eyes of a child.
Amabel Books has been publishing stories since 2014 when the original version of ‘Truck Got Stuck’ became available on shelves. Truck Got Stuck is now avaiable as a new and improved second edition published in 2019.
Since publishing ‘Truck Got Stuck’ a further three stories have been published, ‘My Mommy Likes’ illustrated by Becky Comber, ‘Just a Smile’ and ‘Geese are Not Pets’.
The idea behind each of these unique texts didn’t begin as a business venture to sell a marketable learning product but rather a creative stab in the dark to help my daughter who was struggling to learn to read.
